3 Things You Shouldn’t Do While Sitting in a Hot Tub

Hot tubs and spas are great sources of relaxation, entertainment, and relief. They can help you recover from an injury, ease any pain you might be experiencing, and help your mental state. In fact, 22.4% of hot tub owners say they bought their tub with the primary purpose of recovering from an injury.

While hot tubs are great for so many different things, it’s important to make sure that you’re using them properly. There are a few things you should never do in a hot tub.

First, you should never enter a hot tub or spa with any kind of open sore or type of infection. The hot water is the perfect place for any infection to spread and impact somebody else, especially if the water hasn’t been taken care of properly or been sanitized. Along with sores and infections, you should never enter a hot tub if you have any rashes or other skin afflictions. If you do really want to hop in the hot tub, reach out to your doctor and ask them if it’s okay for you to use it.

Next, you should never use drugs or alcohol while in a hot tub. Sure, it might seem cool to sit in the hot tub with a glass of wine or a warm rum drink, but doctors actually advise against doing so. One major reason why doctors recommend against this is because drinking or using drugs can make you sleepy. If you fall asleep in the hot tub, you are subject to many injuries or even drowning. The hot water can also impact you heavily if you are drunk or under the influence of drugs.

Finally, you should never go in a hot tub or spa that is too hot. Nowadays, Spas tend to have a factory-set temperature of 104 degrees Fahrenheit. While most people find that 100 degrees or 102 degrees Fahrenheit is the best level for them, a higher temperature than the factory default can actually cause strain on your heart and potentially cause skin injuries. Always check the temperature before hopping into a spa or hot tub so you know that you will be safe.

Hot tubs are great for many different things. However, it’s so important to make sure that you are using them properly. Take a look at the items listed above so you know for certain how to be safe and enjoy your hot tub experience.
